Netflix may add an even more expensive 'Ultra' streaming tier

Netflix may add an even more expensive 'Ultra' streaming tier

Italian Netflix subscribers have noted that the streamer is apparently toying with introducing a higher-priced tier of service called Ultra that would reportedly offer more than what Netflix's current highest-priced tier offers. The only difference appears to be that it supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) while all other plans on Netflix don't support the feature anymore according to the listing.

Images grabbed from the website show that there are at least two possibilities being considered for the new tier, which would cost €16.99 - $16.99 in the USA if the current pricing scheme is maintained. The plans determine the quality of the streams, the number of screens customers can watch Netflix on at the same time, and to how many devices they may download movies and shows to. Some reported the Premium package was bumped down to a two screen maximum, while Ultra offered four, but other have reported that the screen limit hasn't changed. The standard plan lets them stream two, and the premium plan lets them stream four. Premium subscribers get access to Ultra HD and four simultaneous screens.

So what do you get with the new high-end plan? Some users who are subscribed to the Standard "HD" plan were also restricted to a single stream, according to Phone Arena.

In an email sent to CNET, a spokeswoman said: "We continuously test new things at Netflix and these tests typically vary in length of time".

Not all Netflix subscribers will see the test, Saran added, and Netflix may never offer these price points permanently. Pricing for the current plans are unchanged in this test, but the way the pricing is structured seems to be a way to disguise the price hike. Nearly 6.4m new global subscribers were added in the final quarter of previous year, along with more than 1.9m users from the US.

Netflix now offers three tiers-Basic ($7.99/month), Standard ($10.99/month), and Premium ($13.99/month).
