Kawhi Leonard passes physical with Toronto Raptors

According to ESPN's Chris Haynes, Kawhi Leonard will not attend USA Basketball mini-camp in Las Vegas next week so he can focus on his transition to his new team, the Toronto Raptors.

Leonard will reportedly spend the week preparing to transition to his new team. A more recent report, however, hints that none of that would have happened if Leonard had only spoken up about what bothered him at that time. Coach Gregg Popovich then offered vague descriptions of his star player's condition as Leonard missed the season opener and many more games after that, not returning to the court until December 12, 28 games into the season.

That news is particularly noteworthy given that one of the big reasons for Leonard's ultimate departure was the year-long saga about his injured quad, suffered during the 2017 postseason.

Kawhi Leonard is taking all kinds of hits during 2018. This was also observed by his advisers, including his uncle, Dennis Robertson, who saw potential in Leonard as a "top-shelf star and global brand". I'd feel it. My agent (Joe Branch) said, "Maybe we should get a second opinion.' I didn't want to because I have full faith and believe in the Spurs" staff.

He only played nine games last season for San Antonio.

"You know, it's hard to get Kawhi to say three words to you". While it's still unsure whether that was indeed the case, Wright speculated that the problems truly started when Leonard had "woke up [one day] and realized he was a superstar in the league".

Before the Spurs traded Leonard to the Raptors, ESPN reported that Leonard was "seriously considering" attending next week's minicamp despite his reported fractured relationship with the Spurs.
