Kavanaugh snags Rand Paul's support to be Supreme Court justice

Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) has lent his support to President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, despite saying as late as last week that he was "honestly undecided" on the judge.

Barrasso said that he was thoroughly impressed with Kavanaugh, and that the meeting was very productive.

Manchin was one of three Democrats who voted to confirm Trump's first Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch.

Most of us expected that Paul would back Kavanaugh in the end, but it's good that he's now on record and good that he didn't drag out whatever suspense he might have created.

"My conversation with Judge Kavanaugh reinforces my belief that he will evaluate cases before the Supreme Court from a textual and originalist point of view", Paul wrote. United States, which broadly limited law enforcement's ability to monitor individuals using cell phone data without a warrant, as a "new precedent" leaving him hopeful that "Judge Kavanaugh will be more open to a Fourth Amendment that protects digital records and property". After the meeting, which lasted over two hours, Manchin remained tight-lipped as to how he meant to vote.

"I have made a decision to support his nomination", said Paul in a statement. "This is a big deal", Paul said in an interview with Politico. A 55 percent majority of those who want their senators to vote against Kavanaugh say they consider the issue very important, as do 45 percent of those who favor his confirmation. And on Friday, after negotiations with Democrats failed to produce a consensus on what documents should be sought ahead of a hearing on Kavanaugh's nomination, Grassley went ahead with a request to the Bush library for documents related to his work for the White House. With Senate control slimly held by Republicans 51-49, Democrats can't block Kavanaugh's nomination outright if Republicans hold together. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of ME, who have bucked the Republican Party on previous issues dealing with women's reproductive rights.

Schumer and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Judiciary panel, have said that doesn't go almost far enough and negotiations over a bipartisan agreement on the official request for Kavanaugh's documents has been at an impasse.

Now that Paul backed Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court, there are few Republican senators who have yet to state if they will vote to confirm Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court.
