Frustrated Sarri Plans Talks with Willian Over Late Return

Frustrated Sarri Plans Talks with Willian Over Late Return

Chelsea have been impressive in pre-season, with new recruit Jorginho the standout performer along with youngster Calum Hudson Odoi, but City are the best team in England and will not go down easily. He was also unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself, racing clean through on to Jorginho's clipped pass only to be denied by an inspired Petr Cech.

That form managed to earn him a place in Belgium's World Cup squad, and also seems to have convined Sarri that the 24 year-old needs to be kept at the "Blues".

With Gonzalo Higuain expected to join AC Milan on loan from Juventus, unsettled club-record signing Álvaro Morata looks set to remain as Chelsea's first choice up front.

Sarri wants to hold talks with the winger as he admitted he is not happy with Willian's situation, labelling it as unusual. "We are talking about top players and I think every club wants to keep top players". Antonio Conte was exasperated and eventually worn down by the feeling of strategic powerlessness; how his successor deals with it could be the difference between success and failure at Stamford Bridge.

The summer transfer window closes a week from today, so if Willian is to leave, Chelsea don't have much time to line up a suitable replacement.

Maurizio Sarri seems impressed by Hudson-Odoi and has stated that the player will be a part of the side for the upcoming campaign.

Once upon a time, clubs from the same league would never play each other during pre-season.
