Top midfielder signing for Arsenal this summer is nearly a ‘fact’

It did showcase the young Torreira to the world as he had an excellent World Cup especially shining in the second round against Portugal where he nullified arguably the world's best player in Cristiano Ronaldo.

This is not to say that it is all sunshine and rainbows for the Gunners with some fans still not convinced about Unai Emery and his drastic overhaul of the Arsenal system claiming that it is not the way forward.

"It is as good as a fact that Lucas will join Arsenal", Ricardo Torreira told Fox Sports Argentina. "We are satisfied with what they offered us, but let's wait a little longer until the World Cup ends".

The Gunners did offer the player to undergo a medical in Russian Federation, but the player rejected as he wanted to commit wholly on national duty.

Now, Uruguay are heading home after the 2-0 defeat to France on Friday afternoon and it seems that the Lucas Torreira deal is moving closer.

The Lucas Torreira deal was awaiting confirmation from David Ornstein and it's great to see that it has finally come.

Once Torreira has completed a medical, he will become Arsenal's fourth signing of the summer transfer window.

Right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner joined on a free transfer after leaving Juventus, while goalkeeper Bernd Leno and centre-back Sokratis Papastahopoulos arrived from Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Those players not on World Cup duty have already returned for the start of pre-season training, with a first warm-up fixture set against Boreham Wood at Meadow Park on Saturday.
