Trump senior official: 'I am part of the resistance'

In a New York Times editorial, the author said President Trump's "amorality" and "impulsiveness" had led to ill-informed and reckless decisions.

The Times said the writer is a senior administration official whose job would be at risk if the person's identity were to be made public.

Since it was released, the op-ed has sparked a parlor guessing game about its author's identity that perhaps hasn't been seen in Washington D.C. since Joe Klein wrote Primary Colors. "[Donald Trump] has a clear governing vision for the country and his record of results is remarkable".

White House officials reached out to a noted Yale University psychiatrist last fall out of concern over President Donald Trump's increasingly erratic behaviour. Since the New York Times op-ed appeared, Pence, in particular, has been a favorite possibility of many online because both he and the anonymous writer have used the unusual word "lodestar" in the past.

It is, in other words, the type of story pretty much any editor would dream of having fall into his lap - which is essentially what happened to Times op-ed page editor Jim Dao, who was approached by the unnamed official through an intermediary several days ago.

Trump went on a private hunt to discover the identity of the author, who characterized Trump as an amoral and temperamental threat to the nation surrounded by concerned senior staff and cabinet members diligently working in concert to check his worst impulses. "Stop", Sanders said. "If you want to know who the gutless loser is, call the opinion desk of the failing NYT".

Since the editorial was published, the highest-ranking officials in Trump's administration have come forth to publicly deny any involvement.

Scott Dworkin, a Democratic strategist and fundraiser, and frequent MSNBC contributor, said on Twitter that a lobbyist from the other side of the aisle reported Trump's plan to use a lie detector test on staff members to determine who wrote the op-ed.

But as the president took the stage, the fallout lingered from the anonymous account published Wednesday in the New York Times.

He called it "a disgrace" and the writer "gutless" during an event with sheriffs at the White House on Wednesday afternoon.

The names on that list include Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, Secretary of Defense James Mattis, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Greg Gutfeld said the controversial New York Times op-ed allegedly written by an anonymous senior Trump administration official "doesn't hurt Trump a bit".

"I'm not sure it matters", Conway said. "Maybe we can just try and steer the fire in a different direction'". "And we are trying to do what's right even when Donald Trump won't".

During a campaign appearance in Billings, Montana, Trump also praised Greg Gianforte, the Republican congressman who physically attacked the Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs past year, as "a fighter and a winner".

"The Deep State and the Left, and their vehicle, the Fake News Media, are going insane - & they don't know what to do", he tweeted on Thursday morning. "With the midterms approaching, [Robert] Mueller's report nearing completion, and the Democrats becoming ever more vocal with their calls for impeachment, she's concerned Donald's going to start to unravel seriously".
