Rapper dead at 26 of apparent overdose

Ariana Grande has been forced to turn off her Instagram comments following the reported death of her ex-boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller.

TMZ reports that Mac Miller was found on Friday at his home in San Fernando Valley. He was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.

Miller has been open about his trouble with substance abuse including an addiction to powerful cough syrup - known on the street as purple drank. In May, a Twitter user alluded that it was her fault Miller was arrested for a DUI. He fled the scene but police say he later confessed at his home. One song, "Hurt Feelings", was released as a promotional video to help promote Miller's latest album "Swimming", which was released early last month.

Mac Miller and Ariana Grande perform on stage, June 4, 2017, in Manchester, England for the "One Love Manchester" benefit concert. "I literally just heard "Despacito" for the first time a few weeks ago", he said. Miller was 26 years old.

Miller was born Malcolm McCormick in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1992.

Following the incident, Miller said in an interview with Beats 1, the accident was the "best thing that could have happened". Just last month, the Los Angeles Attorney's Office officially charged the rapper with driving under the influence (DUI), stemming from a auto accident in May in the San Fernando Valley.

In a statement about her breakup with Miller, Grande said there were times when the "toxic relationship" took its toll. You inspired me throughout highschool, and I wouldn't be where I was today without you. He began his career as a rapper as a teen, and his independent 2011 debut album Blue Slide Park went on to top the Billboard 200 album chart, putting him on the map at an early age. Yet another wrote, "I HOPE YOURE HAPPY WITH PETE", referring to Grande's current engagement to Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson. "I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety and prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man's inability to keep his s**t together is a very major problem", she wrote. That determination paid off - Miller's death is a tragedy whose tremors will be felt through hip-hop for a long time to come.
