'60 Minutes' chief Jeff Fager leaves CBS amid harassment accusations

CBS reporter Jericka Duncan during a CBS Evening News report Wednesday night revealed herself to be the person on the receiving end of Fager's message.

In the texts, which were sent after Duncan went for comment, Hager wrote: 'If you repeat these false accusations without any of your own reporting to back them up, you will be held responsible for harming me'. Fager is denying the misconduct allegations against him while stating he was sacked because of the "harsh" text he sent Duncan.

Meanwhile, Duncan has made the media rounds discussing the text and sharing why she chose to release the text.

"Many people have asked if the text Jeff Fager referenced was to me". She said Fager groped her at a work party.

Yesterday, Designing Women creator Linda Bloodworth Thomason published a scathing op-ed in The Hollywood Reporter accusing ex-CBS president Les Moonves of destroying her career. "My language was harsh and, despite the fact that all journalists receive harsh demands for fairness all the time, CBS did not like it".

He added: 'One such note should not result in termination after 36 years, but it did'. Chairman Leslie Moonves was ousted following sexual misconduct charges. But Moonves wasn't the only CBS honcho named in the second report, and the spotlight was placed firmly on Fager once Moonves was shown the door. In August, he denied the allegations, telling The New Yorker that his accusers were "using an important movement as a weapon", apparently referencing the "Me Too" movement.

In response to that allegation, Fager told CBS News, "This is an outrageous claim and it didn't happen".

News broke Wednesday afternoon that CBS terminated Fager's contract early because he had "violated company policy".

The staffers received nothing approaching a detailed explanation, though Duncan's report, which aired on the "CBS Evening News" on Wednesday, filled in that particular gap.

Longtime "60 Minutes" executive producer Jeff Fager is leaving CBS "effective immediately" after allegations of sexual harassment and groping. Would the company have cashiered Fager for that mere offense, absent the underlying claims?

The New Yorker this summer reported allegations that Fager, who had been at CBS News for more than three decades, touched employees inappropriately and enabled a culture of bad behavior inside the organization.

"When he grabbed my ass, it was just, like, 'Welcome to '60 Minutes.' You're one of us now", Johnasen told The New Yorker.

"60 Minutes" will enter its 51st season under the leadership of executive editor Bill Owens while the search for a new executive producer begins.
